Accounting affects everyone, not just business executives. Whether we realise it or not, we all use some accounting ideas and concepts when planning what to do with our money. At a basic level, most of us try to plan how much to spend and how much to save. We probably don't succeed most of the time! We do realise, however, that it is better to have more money left at the end of the month than there are days!
Mr. Micawber expressed it much more succinctly in Dickens' David Copperfield: "Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income 20 pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."
